< Back to Previous Page New Nevada System Nabs another ID Theft Suspect A new Nevada system that recognizes faces has helped to catch its third suspect of identification theft, this time the suspect was from California. Phillip Goodwin was arrested in his mother’s Sun Valley home after trying to apply for a Nevada driver’s license under another person’s name. He was arrested on suspicion of two counts of possession of false identity documents, false application for an identification, and a 2004 California warrant charging him with violation of parole. The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles caught two suspects in November of 2008 with their facial recognition program. The program was able to discover that the two people had digital photographs that matched two separate names. Carson City officials implemented the system in September and Reno implemented the system in October. The program should be operating on a statewide basis by the end of January. 14 other states across the country use this system.
