Halverson Gets Three Years for Assault

Edward Halverson will spend three years in jail for assaulting his estranged wife, former judge Elizabeth Halverson, with a frying pan that he claims was in self defense because she pulled a knife on him. Elizabeth denied the claim and tried to persuade the judge presiding over the case to let this go to trial and not allow a plea deal. Edward is an ex-convict. A plea deal was reached when Edward pleaded to an Alford plea of battery and domestic violence with a weapon.

With an Alford plea the defendant acknowledges that there is enough evidence for a conviction but is not admitting guilt. Elizabeth was removed from the bench in November. She has wounds on the top of her head from being struck by the frying pan. The judge presiding over the case, David Barker, did not believe the claim of self defense.
